How can GPnetworks be improved in 2011?

This discussion is a sibling to an earlier discussion about the development of a specific feature inside GPaccounts.

The ideas raised in that earlier discussion are:

  • Allow a ‘switch’ within the GP Surgery screen to control if Practices can see a GPs availability outside their Work Radius (but do not show Practices how far a GP is from their location).
  • Add an attribute to Practice accounts: Parking space available? [yes | no]
  • Bring back the multiple session Requesting/booking feature for Practices (this was removed because it was under used)
  • Re-order the Inbox to show non-confirmed items before confirmed items
  • Send reminders to GPs for Confirmed sessions

allow the locum GP to tag a session with their terms & conditions when marking a session as accepted by them so that it is clear that acceptance is subject to these. I’ve had a surgery book a session via GPNW and then cancel via GPNW at short notice and even though you can independently email T&C, it is then not tied to their confirmation of the booking on GPNW.
For this reason, I much prefer it when surgeries make booking requests directly by email as my email reply then has my T&C attached. Then their subsequent confirmation email, having received this, acts as my record of the agreed booking, with eg: cancellation terms made clear in advance.

    thanks for that. very interesting.

how short notice did they cancel?

when you say tag with Ts&Cs, do you mean attach a document ?

4 weeks before, but the session had been booked several months before. I think the impersonal nature of just clicking a box to cancel means that it is easier for a surgery to do so, and they don’t have to discuss with you or explain. With emails I usually attach T&C as a word document and wondered if it would be possible to do the same with GPNW.
I suppose that it is not in GPNW’s interests to make things more difficult for practices but once a booking is confirmed by both parties, it seems one-sided to then allow practices to renege on this so easily. I imagine that potentially, a surgery could send such a cancellation notification the day before a booked session.

    Hello.

Its not that its against our interest, I do not think it would be complicated to allow a GP to upload a Ts&Cs doc to their Profile and for that to then be sent to practices with your request acceptance notifications.

This feature could form part of an enhanced Profile that also includes details about how types and conditions of work and other factors affect your willingness to travel specific distances.

Following natural booking process logic between employer and locum leads us to the functional outcomes for the 2 account types and their relationships but we can always develop things to negate any negative aspects like the one you have mentioned.

I must add that I believe this outcome to be very rare on GPN

Yes, Surgeries can just click a box to cancel work, whereas locums can’t as far as I can see — we have to e-mail practice. Personally, I think their should be a similar mechanism for both

    I totally agree.

It works both ways locums some time cancel at short notice or don’t turn up. 4 weeks’ notice is very reasonable. I think a button on both sides to cancel work. It is professionally desirable, but probably unenforceable, for the canceller to contact the cancellee in good time.

Thanks for you views. We decided to allow employers to cancel Confirmed bookings mainly because they have been perceived to have more at stake in the relationship.

Here is some clarification of the current processes.

Via the system (both parties can always contact each other directly)

    1. A GP cannot CREATE availability for the same day
    2. A practice cannot REQUEST a GP for the same day
    3. A practice cannot CANCEL a Confirmed request for the same day

While a confirmation is awaited(box in yellow) it seems we cannot change our availability for that session. I often get work offers for the same day via e-mail, phone call or face-to- face when I’am working in another practice. It would be desirable to be able to change the availibility.

    Hello

To clarify on this point for everyone:

Yellow status means GP has accepted but Practice has not yet Confirmed.

When status is yellow, both parties can Cancel the request. When this happens, the session reverts to its original status.

GPs can also switch the session between 2 Accepted states:

    - continue to show session as available to other practices
    OR
    - no longer show session as available to other practices

Perhaps you have not discovered these extra features yet ?

After you login and go to your Work & Availability screen, click any session in your calendar that has been requested (in any state) and details will appear on the left side of the screen, with controls and options
